　ラブフルート（ネイティブアメリカンフルート）を中心に、インディアンドラムやシンセサイザーなどでアレンジを加えたオリジナルコンサートです。昨年の台風の時に北海道大学で倒れたポプラで作ったフルートの演奏もあります。やさしい音色を聞きながら、米南部ハリケーン被災者の方々に思いを馳せ、支援の輪を広げたいと思います。

Charity Concert for Victims of Hurricane Katrina
Last year, a huge typhoon hit Hokkaido and a lot of trees　fell on the Hokkaido University campus. Mr. Ono, a member of　Blue Raven, made a flute from a fallen tree. This is the love flute (native American Indian flute) concert, performed by Blue Raven. Please join the concert and think of suffering people in the U.S.

Date: Oct. 29th (Sat.) 2:00p.m.～3:30p.m.

Place: Nopporo Kominkan (5 minutes walk from Nopporo JR Station)

Ticket: 700yen for advance, 800yen on the day, 500yen for students and non-Japanese

「みんなおいでよ！2005江別世界市民のつどい」のお知らせ

・フォークダンス（ecieaによるドイツのフォークダンスです。１時半からです）

・ダブルダッチ（縄跳びを2本使ってのパフォーマンス）

・ハロウィン（カボチャを彫る体験ができ、子供向けのゲームもあります）

・ゴスペル（アメリカの宣教師が講習会を開いてくれます。ステージ発表での参加もできます）

・ハンドベル（小さい子供も体験できます）

・ブルーグラスの演奏（大学生のバンド演奏です）等々

フリーマーケット出店報告

　８月２１日（日）　江別市役所正面駐車場にて

　日本リサイクルネットワーク・えべつ主催のフリーマーケットにECIEAは、7月についで二度目の出店をしました。タイへ衣類を寄贈する資金を得るため会員の持ち寄った衣類や不用品を販売しました。

　当日は小雨の中８時３０分から用意をし、延べ１２人の会員が２交代で手伝いました。

　途中から雨が本降りになってきましたが、最後の1店になるまで店を開き1万５千円の売上がありました。

　衣類はワニダさん,タイランド協会を通してお届けする予定です。　ご協力下さった方がた、ありがとうございました。（太田佳美さん）

Second Flea Market in August

ECIEA had a shop at the flea market organized by Japan Recycle Network Ebetsu to raise relief funds for Thailand on Aug.21st.
Twelve volunteer staff helped to sell the goods in the continuous rain and the sales were 15,000yen. This will be used to send old clothes to Thailand through Wanida-san. We thank you for your help. ( Ms. Yoshimi Ota)

浅井学園大学調印式

　7月22日（金）浅井学園大学で、浅井学園大学とハワイ大学カピオラニ・コミュニティカレッジとの間の国際交流事業合意の調印式にECIEAも招待され、代表して参加させていただきました。

　挨拶の中でハワイ大学カピオラニ・コミュニティカレッジの学長さんが、しきりに「アロハの精神」を強調されていらっしゃいました。

　学生のソーラン・グループによるアトラクションのあとレセプションとなりましたが、その席上で先の調印式でハワイ大学カピオラニ・コミュニティカレッジの学長さんの通訳をされた美人秘書（日本人）に再度「アロハの精神」について尋ねたところ親切にメモ書きしてくれました。

ALOHA　=　Akahai （親切）、Lokahi （和合、統一）、【oの上に’~’が入るハワイ語】Olu'olu （心地よさ）、Ha'aha'a (謙虚さ)　Ahonui （忍耐）以上のハワイ語の意味を含んでいる言葉だそうです。

　また、浅井学園大学のスタッフの方からECIEAには日ごろ、韓国学生のホームステイでお世話になっていますとお礼を頂き、これからはハワイ関係についてもよろしくとのことでした。（伊藤祐輔さん）

Report on the Ceremony of International Exchange Program
   On July 22nd (Fri.) ECIEA was invited to the ceremony of International Exchange Program between University of Hawai' i-Kapi' olani Community College and Asai Gakuen University/College, so I attended as the ECIEA representative.
   The President of University of Hawai' i-Kapi' olani Community　College emphasized 'Spirit of ALOHA' in his speech. After we　 enjoyed students' attraction by Soran group, we moved to the Reception Hall.
   At the reception I asked the beautiful Japanese secretary of the president of University of Hawai' i-Kapi' olani Community College about the 'Spirit of ALOHA.'
She wrote this on my note.
   ALOHA=akahai (kindness), Lokahi (harmony, unity), Olu'olu (comfortable) Ha'aha'a (humility), Ahonui (endurance)
   She said that "ALOHA" contained five Hawaiian words in it.
   I got many thanks from staff of Asai Gakuen University/College on ECIEA's homestay cooperation of Korean students. They said, "We hope ECIEA will embrace Hawaiian students next year." (Mr. Yusuke Ito)

　９月１１日に予定されていましたエーデルマンさんとレベッカさんのコンサートは、「レベッカさん発病、入院のため９月中の演奏が困難」との連絡があり、中止といたしました。ECIEAの皆様にご迷惑をおかけいたしましたことお詫び申し上げます。

　生涯学習推進協議会の支援事業については、事情をお話し取り下げといたしました。チラシ等の印刷直前に連絡があった為、出費はありませんでした。

「とらやの写真箱」、もうひとつの楽しみ方

　今野さんのホームページ「とらやの写真箱」は、30年前に廃止された蒸気機関車を江別駅で撮影したものを皆さんにお目にかけたいと思って始めたそうです。鉄道関係の写真や記事がメインですが、実は動物の写真もアップされています。うわ～、すごい！まさに旭山動物園と今野さんのコラボレーションアート。作品への賞賛もさることながら、カメラを通して少年のように動物たちと戯れている作者を心からうらやましいと思う。（佐藤久恵さん）

　「写真を長年やっていて、一時期動物園ばかりに撮影に出掛けましたが通えば通うほど動物たちの愛らしさに気が付き目を細め、撮影そっちのけで観察をしていました。写真をやらない方でも、オペラグラスでも持ち覗いて観察すると実に豊かな表情を見せてくれているのに気がつかされると思います。旭山動物園は、そういう動物たちの個性を最大限に引き出し見る目を新たにさせてくれた動物園であり、また行きたいと思える最高の動物園と言えましょう」

Another Way of Enjoying Mr. Konno’s Website
You can find some photos of cute animals on Mr. Konno’s website, “Toraya no Shashin-bako　（Toraya’s Photo Box）,” that features steam locomotives and railroad related items. Wow, how fantastic! This is the art collaborated by the Asahiyama Zoo and Mr. Konno. I admire his pictures but, more than that, I truly envy the photographer having fun with animals like a boy through his camera. Comments from Mr. Konno
I used to visit zoos to take pictures of animals so frequently. The more often I would visit, the more I found myself observing the loveliness of animals and forgetting to release the shutter. If you are not interested in taking pictures, just look at animals through opera glasses instead of cameras like me. You will soon recognize how expressive their facial signals are. The Asahiyama Zoo draws out the unique characteristics of each animal for you to discover the new way of enjoying them.

ホームステイあ・ら・かると Home Stay A La Carte

★初めての受け入れは、いろいろな所を案内したけれどあまり興味を持ってくれたと言う実感がなかったので、二度目の受け入れはチョッと手抜きの対応でした。ところが、とても熱心に日本について興味をもって楽しんでくれた彼女は、今でもメールで連絡取り合っています。もっと一生懸命お世話してあげればよかった・・・。（小田部広子さん）

◆During our first acceptance of home-stay female student, we guided her around various places over Ebetsu. However we felt she had not much interest, but later we knew she was actually interested eagerly in Japan and its culture, so we were keeping in touch with each other through email. ★カナダからの大学生を受け入れたのは、ちょうど運動会の時期でした。息子の小学校では、親の出場種目もバラエティに富んで楽しめるものなので、家族の一員として彼を登録しておきました。樽回しと綱引きに割り当てられました。ところが、彼の衣服もスニーカーも高いブランド物ばかりで、とてもおしゃれにこだわりのある人だったことが分かりました。そんな彼が、真っ白いTシャツと高級スニーカーで綱引きに出場したのです。汗とほこりにまみれた姿の彼を見て申し訳ない気持ちになりました。でも、決して忘れられない思い出の一つになった事は請け合いです。（山北由香子さん）

◆I hosted a student from Canada just before the Sports Day of my son’s school. As there were a wide variety of games on the event, I had registered him as one of my family members before the event. On that day he attended two kinds of games in brand-new white T shirt and luxurious sneakers. After a tug-of-war, the sweat stained his shirt and dust covered his face. I felt sorry for him, thinking I should have not got him involved in the game. But now I believe it is one of our unforgettable memories. (Ms. Yukiko Yamakita)

★１５歳から７０歳まで、一泊から一年間までいろいろな国の人が我が家の家族になりました。孫の誕生直後に沐浴の手伝いをしてもらった男子大学生、最近では義母の介護の手を借りたり・・。長続きの秘訣は、人間に興味があること。日常生活そのままに受け入れる事。そして、ホームステイの最大の魅力は、出会いのときめきがその後の友情につながることかも知れません。（葛西恵美子さん）

◆We received overseas friends from several countries, aged fifteen to seventy who, stayed for a night to a year. One male student helped with the bathing of our newborn grandchild, and what's more he took care for my mother in law. The knack for continuing to host over the years is based on interest in human beings while maintaining your every day life. What is the attractiveness of home-stay? I suppose it must be that first heart beating of a new encounter, that stands long over time as a steady friendship. (Ms. Emiko Kasai)

★イギリスからやって来たジョン君は日本に到着して、空港で食べたアイスクリームと焼きそばがとても気に入って、メモ帳に日本語で書いていました。たまたま私がそれを見つけ、ざるそばや温かいそばもあるので、是非いろんな日本の味を楽しんで欲しいと思い用意しましたが、食が進まず心配しました。「やはり焼きそばかな・・」と。焼きそばも、滞在最後の夜のカレーライスもペロリと平らげてくれホッと一安心。あまり深読みせず始めから好きなもの出してあげればよかった。（宮町比佐子さん）

◆John from England ate ice-cream and “yakisoba” (chow mein) when he arrived in Japan. As they were so delicious, he took a note on them in Japanese. While I was hosting him, I happened to read it, and thought it would be nice for him to savor similar but bit different food. Then I served him “zaru-soba”, usual “soba” and so on. Those dishes didn’t seem to give an edge to his appetite. I changed my mind and cooked “yakisoba”. He ate it all and curry rice with great relish the day before his leaving. I was relieved. I should have made dishes as he liked without reading too much it. (Ms. Hisako Miyamachi.)

北方圏センターの企画に大麻中学が手を挙げて実現することになった教室です。大麻中学校全学年を対象とした５，６校時の総合学習の時間として行われ、演奏の他に日本の歌を披露したり、合奏部と出演者のジョイント、生徒を巻き込んだアフリカ長靴ダンスのワークショップなど、生徒がアフリカの文化に親しむことを目的とした教室です。

地域の皆さんの参加も歓迎されているので、興味のある方はぜひ足を運んでみてください。
