第１４回定例総会開催開催
去る４月２３日〔日〕江別市民国際交流協会の第１４回定例総会が江別国際センターで開催されました。 議長宮武玲子さんの進行で出席者３５名が議案を熱心に審議し、１７年度の活動報告と決算報告、会則の改定、１８年度の活動計画案と予算案が承認されました。
これまでの部制を廃止すると言う会則の改定についていくつかの質問があり、伊藤会長の“人事の都合の止むを得ない措置”という説明に納得していただきました。 年会費の改定が承認され一般会員の年会費は２０００円と値下げになりました。 また会員の連絡先の公開については役員会で検討することになりました。
新役員の紹介、挨拶で１時間にわたる総会が無事終了し会場を移し懇親会が行われ、茶菓をいただきながらクイズやコーラスを楽しみました。 アイルランドからのオサリバン一家や会員のお子様たちも参加し和やかなひとときをすごしました。 無事新年度のスタートが切られＥＣＩＥＡの活発な活動が期待されています。
会員の皆様のご協力をお願いいたします。 新年度の会費の納入もお早めにお願いいたします。

The 14th General Meeting Report
The 14th General Meeting of the ECIEA was held on Apr. 28 (Sun.) at the Ebetsu International Center. The activities and statements of the accounts for the last fiscal year as well as the plans and budget for the next fiscal year were approved. Rules were revised, eliminating the department system.
After the business portion of the meeting, we enjoyed a quiz, chorus and chatting with Irish guests the O'Sullivans, and various members' children. (Ms. Yoshimi Ota)

サロン・ド・エシア
ECIEA唯一の、定期的交流の場である「サロン・ド・エシア」では、担当者を募集しています。ちょっとお茶とお菓子の用意をするくらいで、そんなに重い仕事ではありません。サロンの盛り上げ役は参加者のみなさんですから。２〜３人で、交替で受け持てば、より気も楽になるし・・・。たくさんの方が手を上げてくださることを期待しています。

Let's enjoy the music by the high spirited lad under candlelight. All proceeds of this event will be used for Thailand's refugees.

Mr. Sasaki is a singer and songwriter who performs live around Sapporo, appearing on one of Air-G Radio Programs.

A Montreal University student will visit Ebetsu in June.
The student will be accepted by Ms. Ogasawara from June 19 to 23.
The students from Beifa College in Korea will also visit Ebetsu from July 15 to 17.

has (both German cities) are not nearly as strong as your relationship
with Gresham, or Sapporo's relationship with Portland. You could be good
role models for Frederick.
エシアの皆さん、素晴らしい季節を楽しんでいることと思います。札幌を離れてなおニューズレターを通してエシアの活動に関わっていけることをいつも嬉しく思っています。私の住んでいるフレデリック市はドイツの2都市と姉妹都市提携を結んでいますが、江別市とグレシャム市や札幌市とポートランド市との間のような強い繋がりがなくうらやましく思っています。
ソウル 再会の旅
２人で行くと安くなるからという、娘の都合と思惑によって急遽５月の連休に、私はソウル３泊４日の初海外旅行をする事となった。ソウルにはホームステイで知り合った４人の学生たちがいるので、いつかは是非訪ねたい場所だった。昨年高麗大学学生で札幌大学に留学していた朴さんが、今は無事就職したので休日２日間案内してくれると申し出てくれていた。娘との２人旅も初めての経験。さてさて、どんな旅になるのやら。
ホテルのロビーで朴さんと半年振りの再会をし、ガイド通訳付きの楽チン旅行開始となった。夜は、２年前にホームステイを引き受けた東国大学の３人の学生達と夕食をする事になっていた。地下鉄の出口の階段を見上げるとなつかしい顔が並んでいた。明るく冗談の上手いJong kwangは留年して現在４年生。真面目で大人っぽかったJa hoonは有名な電子機器外車の「サムスン」に就職。美人で都会的な紅一点のji wonは、高級化粧品の販売員をしているそうだ。
彼等は落ち着いた韓国の精進料理のお店に案内してくれた。朴さんが通訳をしてくれるので、話がとても弾み、思い出話も爆笑また爆笑！とうとうお店の人に注意される始末。
次に向かったのは、東国大学キャンパス。急な坂を登って着いた大学は仏陀生誕のお祭りの最中で、キャンパスは提灯が下がり鹿・象・鶴など動物を象った大きな行灯があちこちに置かれて、ソウルの夜景ともども見事だった。あまりに楽しいので、結局次の日も私達は行動を共にして再会を心ゆくまで味わった。
案内と通訳をしてくれた朴さんは、就職したばかりでストレスが溜まっていたが、自分も知らなかったソウルを発見できて本当に楽しかったと別れ際に語ってくれた。娘は、彼等がお世話になった人には心からお礼の気持を持ってもてなしてくれる事に感激したようだった。（あなたも見習ってね！）
そして私はハードスケジュールをものともせず、若者たちのエネルギーを奪うほどにソウルを楽しんだ。ホームステイには、こんな大きなおまけがあったんだ。ありがとう！韓国の若者たち。（園部亜佐子さん）
Reunion Tour to Seoul
I accompanied my daughter over Golden Week on a four days trip to Seoul, Korea. We have four close friends in Seoul. Our first encounter with them took place during their university days, when we took on the role of host family while they visited Japan. We had been expecting for some time to meet them again. Last year we accepted Mr. Pak from Koryo University as our homestay guest; he attended Sapporo University. After he graduated, he succeeded in getting a job. He offered to spend two days with us during his holiday.
In our first experience on an overseas tour, we found a reliable conductor in Mr. Pak. We were reunited with Mr. Pak on April 29th. At the hotel, he arranged for us to dine with three other students of Tonguk University who had stayed with us two years before.
Looking up the subway entrance stairs, we saw three familiar faces. Mr. Jong Kwang, a bright joker, is now a senior in university. Mr. Ja Hoon, more serious and mature, is now working for the famous IT company, Samsung. Ms. Ji Won, the only girl in the group, beautiful and urbane, is a sales clerk of quality cosmetics.
They introduced us to a restaurant with maigre dish. Through good interpretation by Mr. Pak, we had a lively conversation, and nostalgic memories were revived. We burst out laughing many times.
Next, we visited the Tonguk University campus. After going up a steep slope, we were greeted by a festival of the Buddha. Campus was ornamented by various lanterns in the shapes of animals like deer, elephant, crane, etc. The night view over Seoul was magnificent. It was a most pleasant evening.
The next day we toured together again! We promised to have a reunion in the near future. My daughter was very impressed with their cordiality, friendliness and the hospitality provided to us. (You should follow their lead, my daughter!) Thank you, young Koreans. (Ms. Asako Sonobe)
東地中海・三大陸クルーズ
先日私は両親と娘の４人で、地中海クルーズに行って来ました。６カ国１１都市を２週間で巡る旅でした。イタリア、ヴァチカン、エジプト、トルコ、ギリシャ、キプロスと一度に色々な観光しましたが、今回は夢のような船の生活をメインにお話します。
この船、イタリアのコスタクルーズ社のもので、コスタ社最大のフォーチュナー号です。１０万５千トン、海上（地上）１３階、海下（地下）５階、全長は横浜ランドマークタワーくらい（２７２ｍ）ありました。海上部分は全てお客様用キャビンと施設になっていてプールだけで４つ、劇場、図書館、礼拝堂、カジノ、免税店、エステ、ジョギング用トラック、テニスコート、薬局に病院（手術も対応）、保育士つきのキッズルームなど。スパもレストランも、毎晩プログラムが変わるショーも、スポーツジムも何もかも使い放題、食べ放題！朝からフルコースを食べても、深夜にオープンするミッドナイト・ビュッフェも体重さえ気にしなければご自由に。
乗客３５００人に対し（日本人は２４人だけ）、クルーは１５００人。コックだけで１７０人も。全ての船内放送・催し物は、伊・仏・英・独・ポルトガル語の順に６回くり返されます。
クルーやエンターティナーは、７ヶ月契約で、１日も休日なし！一日平均１５時間勤務。本当に良く働く人達で、少しでも何か探す素振りを見せると「いかが致しました、マダム？」と飛んでくる。
ワイン（有料）は船内どこででもキープされます。例えば３階のメイン・ダイニングで半分残ったボトルワイン、翌日９階のプールサイドで飲みたければ、ダイニングでのテーブル番号をクルーに伝えるだけ。魔法の様に飲み残したボトルが運ばれてきます。
船での生活は、まさに世界中の金持ちの中に紛れ込んだ、なんちゃってマダムの世界。そういえば、ほかの人は船内での絵画のオークションや、５０ｃｍ四方で８０万するトルコ絨毯を購入してたっけ。
国境を海上で越えるから時々、時差が発生し、毎日船内新聞で伝えてきます。国境を越えるごとに、免税店も品物を換え、今日はイタリア、明日はエジプト、次にトルコといった感じ。一日２４時間では足りず時差を利用してまで遊び、海からの日の出に、夕食時の日の入り、デッキで見上げた星空、船長の歓迎パーティでは私も着物を着ました。仮装パーティまであり、寝る暇なんてないほど堪能した２週間でした。 （京墓 亜希子さん）
Dream-like Cruising in the Eastern Mediterranean
Recently, I embarked on a Mediterranean cruise with my parents and my daughter. We visited 11 cities in Italy, the Vatican, Egypt, Turkey, Greece and Cyprus in two weeks.
Life was like a dream on the largest of the Costa Cruises luxury liners, The Fortuner. The ship was equipped with facilities such as a pool (actually four pools!), theater, library, chapel, casino, duty-free shop, spa, clinic and so on. All amenities including a different movie each night, spa services and dining were available with no extra fee. I felt as if I were a celebrity surrounded by millionaires gathered from all over the world.
When the liner crossed the border of one country and into another, we could find the time difference in the newspaper, distributed on the ship. The duty-free shop would then change their items according to the country we were in. For example, you could buy Italian goodies on one day; Egyptian the next. Twenty-four hours in a day was not enough time to enjoy all of the amenities. The view from the deck was so imposing, the sun rising from the sea each morning, the sun setting into the sea during dinner and the following starry sky. There were several parties, such as a welcome party (to which I wore a kimono), and a masquerade ball. I fully enjoyed the two weeks vacation -- there was no time for sleep! (Ms. Akiko Kyozuka)
