In addition to joint efforts, like the Ebetsu International Festival, the Homestay Commitee is active in two main areas: home stays and home visits.
Home stays
Non-Japanese visiting Ebetsu are welcome to experience Japanese
life by staying with one
or more of the homestay commitee's members. The length of stay
is usually limited to five days, which should be long
enough to get a feeling for the Japanese home and enjoy the sights
of Ebetsu. We request you to pay \1,000 a day to your
host. We feel that participation with Ebetsu's citizens in their
daily routine will foster a deeper mutual understanding.
Home visits
Non-Japanese visitors to Ebetsu with limited time and those who may
have been here a while but who haven't as yet had an opportunity
to experience a Japanese home are invited to join a family over
a cup of tea and a bite to eat.
The Homestay Committee aims to encourage and develop grassroots
cultural exchanges through the above activities.
Differences in language are often a large barrier that stop people from
coming together. Acting as an intermediary between language groups solves
immediate communication problems, however we feel that encouraging and
teaching language skills is in the long run the most satisfying solution
to language barriers. Our activities reflect this bias.
The Social Events Committee's purpose is to bring people together, preferably in a relaxed atmosphere. We believe this is a good way to overcome social barriers. Our events give members the opportunity to experience each others culture, habits and lifestyles.
