今年のエシアの出し物はフォークダンスで、会員の佐々木洋子さん指導の元、ロシアの叙情的なダンスを舞台で踊り、ドイツのフォークダンスで会場の人を誘って踊りました。子どもの頃踊ったフォークダンスの気恥ずかしさが蘇る経験ができたのではないでしょうか。
エシアのパネルも展示し、ゴミステーションにも会員が手を挙げて参加しました。 （平川 和徳さん）
World Fest 2005 in Ebetsu
As for ECIEA, we danced Russian and German folkdances, having Ms. Sasaki
as our dance instructor. We danced on the stage first, then called
for audience members to join (harkening back to embarrassing moments in
school). We also put the panel and some members made an offer for
garbage station for this festival. (Mr. Hirakawa )
世界の踊りが１つの輪に
今年の「みんなおいでよ世界市民の集い」にも、沢山の国々からの人々が集まっていました。 ＥＣＩＥＡとしての演目は、民族舞踊（フォークダンス）と決まった。さて、１時間程度の練習で、出来上がる曲として考えたのは、ロシアの踊り「リリーチスキー・ハラヴォード」でした。ちょうど会に以前寄付されていたウールの大判スカーフがあるというので、白のブラウス、黒のスカート、黒の靴にこのスカーフを肩に掛けることにした。練習に集まった会員は、母子、インドネシアの主婦、アジアの留学生等、さすが多彩な顔ぶれだった。 熱心な練習の成果があって、ステージは盛り上がった。
２曲目の「キンダー・ポルカ」は、今年が国際ドイツ年というので、誰でも見てすぐに踊れるドイツの踊りを選んだ。幸い会員の呼びかけに、会場にいた外国の方々も若い人も年配の方も加わって、楽しいひとときを共有できたことは感謝で一杯でした。

Our annual event, "World Fest in Ebetsu," was held magnificently
with many world citizens assembled joyfully from various countries.
ECIEA planned the "World Folk Dance," and chose among various
folk songs, Russian dance music "Rereachiskii Haravode".
Fortunately we had some same big woolen scarves, so the costume of our
dance group comprised a white blouse, a black skirt, black shoes and the
scarf on the shoulder. Our group consisted of a variety of people,
including a mother and a child, an Indonesian housewife, and an Asian exchange
student. They were more than worthy as an international lineup. With
eager training efforts, their performance was perfect on stage. The second
stage of "Kinder Polka" was German folk music; this year is "The
Year of Germany in Japan". Throughout the hall, participants
joyously joined the polkas. What a splendid festival! I felt
deeply thankful for the happy times we all shared. (Ms. Yoko Sasai)

Ebetsu has a long-established sister-city relationship with Gresham city,
Oregon. A group of about 15 women in Gresham will visit Ebetsu next
autumn. ECIEA will play a central role in accepting them and will
welcome them with hearty hospitality. We are currently forming a
planning committee, tentatively named Team Gresham, and recruiting staff
who will help us prepare for the event. Why don't you join Team Gresham?

10月22日（土）にスノウさんの教会のバスをお借りして旭山動物園を訪れました。午後は旭川美術館でグリム童話原画展を鑑賞したり公園を散歩したりしました。幼児から70歳代まで24名（内外国の方10人）が参加し、わいわいがやがやと楽しい一日でした。スノウさん、楽しい旅行をありがとうございました。なお、集めた費用のうち780円が残りましたので、カトリーナ募金に寄付いたしました。
We visited the Asahiyama Zoo by bus which was borrowed from Mr. Snow on
Oct. 22nd(Sat.). In the afternoon, we enjoyed looking at drawings
on the Grimm fairly tales in the Asahikawa Museum of Art, and walking in
a park. Twenty four people, who ranged from children to those in their
70s, joined the event and had a great fun time. Thanks to Mr. snow
for offering us a wonderful tour. The left over money of 780 yen
from the fees, which was collected from attendees, was donated to help
Hurricane Katrina victims.
楽しかった旭山動物園
降りしきる雨の朝、センターへ集合した時には 正直言って“この天気で本当に楽しめるのだろうか“ と不安で一杯でした。しかしバスに乗り込んで、渡辺さんの元気なガイドを聞くうちに場のムードはどんどんなごやかになってゆきました。実際、北へ向かうにつれて雨は小降りになり気温も上がりはじめ、動物園に到着した時にはもうワクワク感で一杯！私は８才の息子と、バスで隣同士だったスノウさんちのエリザベスと３人で園内をまわりました。急ぎたがる息子をなだめながら進みゆくほどに、私もエリザベスも動物の名前を連呼！わぁポーラベア！
わぁフラミンゴ！ 何度も来たくなるという理由がわかりました。こんなに近くでペンギンと向かいあえる動物園が他にあるでしょうか？もっと見ていたい、でも限られた時間の中、なごり惜しい気持ちでお昼のお弁当を食べました。
午後は、常盤公園の中の美術館へ向かい自由行動。 「公園で遊ぶ！」と言う息子の一言で、まあいいか・・と公園を散策しました。しかしこれがまたすばらしい！
たっぷりとつもった落ち葉を踏みしめるとフワフワ。美しい樹木を眺めながら沢山葉っぱをひろって来ました。
帰りのバスの中では、タイからの留学生チャーリィと息子、エリザベスと共にしりとりゲーム。チャーリィもエリザベスも、日本語で言葉を沢山つなげてくれました。
あっという間の一日、エシアの仲間達と一緒に楽しい時間を過ごせて本当にｈａｐｐｙでした。 最後に、安全運転で送り迎えをしてくれたネイサン・スノウ氏、このツアーを計画して下さった方々、参加したすべての皆様に感謝致します。ありがとうございました。(植木あけみさん)
My Fun Experience in the Asahiyama Zoo
Unfortunately, the day was rainy. when I arrived the International
Center, I felt very anxious because I thought I may not be able to enjoy
the tour on such a rainy day. But as the bus came near to the Zoo,
the rain eased off. When the bus finally arrived at the zoo, I was
filled with excitement. I looked around the zoo with my 8 year-old son
and Mr. Snow's daughter Elizabeth. As we walked around to see animals,
I found Elizabeth and I yelled with glee. "Here are polar bears!,"
"Wow flamingos!" I understand why the Asahiyama Zoo has
so many repeaters. There is no other zoo where guests can see penguins
so closely. I didn't feel like leaving there. In the afternoon, we
went to the Tokiwa Park. Some went in the museum in the park, but
my son insisted to play around out there. So he and I walked around
among the beautifully colored trees, collecting a lot of fallen leaves.
It was wonderful! The day went by surprisingly fast and I was really happy
to have great time with ECIEA members. My appreciation goes to Mr.
Snow, who took us to the zoo and back home by bus, staff who planned the

I am very happy to join a wonderful trip to Asahiyama zoo with Ebetsu
International center. The exhibition in that zoo is quite good for example
penguin show, seal aquarium, polar bear aquatic park and uranutan show
but lion in fierce animal exhibit is so pity.... It is so lonely. After
we
finished a delicious lunch (thank you to prepare the lunchbox for us),
we went to a park in Asahikawa. Autumn in that park is wonderful. Within
2 hours, I walked around and went to see Asahikawa bridge close to that
park. Thank you again to invite me to join this trip. Best Regard,

旭山動物園へのツアーはとても楽しく、参加させて頂けて本当によかったです。ペンギンショーやアザラシ館、白クマ館にオランウータンのショーなど、園内の施設はどれも素晴らしかったけれど、猛獣館のライオンはひどく寂しげで、なんだか可哀相になりました。美味しい昼食（お弁当を用意していただき、ありがとうございました）をいただいた後は、公園に移動。秋の公園は素敵でした。2時間という時間内で、辺りを散策し、公園の近くにある旭橋を見に行きました。繰り返しになりますが、今回の旅行に誘って頂き、ありがとうございました。 （チェリーさん）
何と心地よい調べだったのでしょう！ラブフルートの音色は、あるときは土でありあるときは風になりまたあるときは水のようでもあり、でもやっぱり息遣いをとおして響いてくる心の深い思いでした。横笛修業中の身としては、難しい指さばきやまちがえないことについとらわれ過ぎてしまう自分に気付き、豊かな音色を持てるようにと強く思ったことでした。音そのものが音楽なんですね。素晴らしいチャリティーコンサート、ほんとうにありがとうございました。（日角 真紀子さん）
収益金報告
秋も深まった10月29日(土)に野幌公民館にて、ブルーレイバン演奏によるラブフルート(ネイティブアメリカンフルート)を中心にしたオリジナルコンサートを開催いたしましたが、おかげさまで約130名のご参加をいただきました。収益金91,198円は、特定非営利活動法人 AMDAに「カトリーナ被災者支援金」として11月2日に送金致しました。また当日はパキスタン大地震のための募金も募りましたところ13,580円を集めることができましたが、こちらはHuman
Life Project Japan (代表：西村拓夫・岩見沢)に寄付させていただきました。寄付した額はわずかですが、皆さんの暖かい心が被災者の皆さんに届きますように、またこのような活動が少しは社会を動かす力になりますように祈っております。ご支援下さいました皆様、ありがとうございました。
What a comfortable tone it was! To me, the love flute sang as if
from the soil, or wind or water. I'm also learning to play the flute.
I hope I can play one day with the expressive tones I heard at the concert,
not worrying about making mistakes. Their sounds made me notice that
music is all about tone. Thank you for the wonderful performance.

by Blue Raven on Oct.29th.
The proceeds were 91,198 yen. We sent it to AMDA as "the donation
for Katrina victims" on Nov.2nd. At the same time, 13,580 yen
was collected for the Pakistan Earthquake victims. We sent it to Human
Life Project Japan. We appreciate your heartful kindness and cooperation.

As you know, Shichigosan is held on Nov.15th every year though, we hold
it in a bit of a unique style! On Nov. 15th, Salon De ECIEA had a
Shichigosan party for people in their 70s, 50s, and 30s with 14people.
We had fun and the table was filled
with kachang hijau (Indonesian sweet bean-soup), sekihan (rice steamed with red
beans), and other great dishes guests brought.
Ms. Nuning, an Indonesian student told
us "I'm very pleased to have many friends here in Ebetsu."

Hello everyone.
I would like to thank everyone who donated old clothes, and
who has participated to help raise money for shipping costs of those old
clothes. We sent some clothing to the foundation for women in Thailand
on Oct. 25. The shipping cost was 14,800 yen for two boxes of clothes (34
kgs).
I hope to get this kind of generosity again next time, if
there is ever a terrible disaster or situation when so many people need
help.

今回は、12年ぶりに私が2年半過ごしたN.Y.のアルバート・アインスタイン医科大学とお世話になった教授及び友人訪問、それから千歳の米軍基地時代から40年来の付き合いの友達で現在ワシントンに住んでおられるロバート家の訪問が目的でN.Y.3泊、ワシントン2泊の計5泊7日の忙しい旅行でアメリカを駆け巡って来ました。丁度9.11に近かったので各空港でも警備が厳しく、チェックされました。
観光は出来ませんでしたけれども、90歳近くになる私の恩師にも会い、大学の古いスタッフにも会う事が出来、大変有意義な旅行でした。
N.Y.では、ワールドセンターの跡（グランドゼロ）も見て来ました。
1日夜時間が空いていたので、ミュージカルの「オペラ座の怪人」を観て来ました。
ワシントンでは、江別にも時々来てECIEAのお手伝いをして頂き、今でも翻訳でお世話になっておりますコートニーさんにお会いして来ました。結婚して子供さんも2人出来、ワシントンで生活しておられるとの事で、写真の様に、かわいい子供さん2人と御主人に囲まれ、とても幸せそうでした。短い時間でしたけれどもお話も出来、コートニーさんに紹介して頂いた運転手ティムさんに空港まで往復運転してもらい、色々お世話になりました。
診療を離れて、第2の故郷であるN.Y.を訪問出来、とても有意義な時間を過ごせたと思います。コートニーさんも「くれぐれもECIEAの皆さんに宜しく」と言っておりました。

My Travel Sketch
in America
This time I went to the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York
where I had studied for two and half years twelve years before. I
visited my university professors and friends. I also called on the Roberts
who have been valued friends for forty years since we met at the American
base in Chitose. I stayed three nights in New York and two
nights in Washington. My itinerary for the trip was just after Sep.
11, so I was asked to present my identification many times.
Although I didn’t have time for sightseeing, I was really happy to
see my professor who is nearly 90 years old and the staff of those days.
In New York, I went to Ground Zero and watched “Phantom of the Opera”.
In Washington, I met Courtney who has helped our ECIEA’s activities
since she was in Japan. She is still helping us with the proofreading
of our Newsletter. As you can see in the picture, she got married and had
two cute children.
We didn't get much time to talk, but we
were glad to have at least a quick catch-up.
Getting away from work, I visited my second hometown and had a wonderful
time. Courtney sends her best regards to all ECIEA’s members.

ホームステイ受け入れ感想
コロンビアからＪＩＣＡのロサルバさん（Ｍs Rosalba）が、スペイン語のまるで分からない我が家へ一泊のホームステイ！どのように会話していいのやら？身振り手振り、笑って冷汗かいて、絵を描いて、両者共に辞書を引き引き、まさに四苦八苦のコミュニケーション！スペイン語と日本語、片言の英語も飛び交って、理解しあえた時のうれしさったら言葉では言い表せません。ベジタリアンのロサルバさんと夕食の買い物をして、料理もいっしょに作ってお腹いっぱい食べました。彼女は、明るくて社交的で積極的なので喜んで温泉にも行きました。言葉より行動！でも、やはりもっと色々なことについて話ができると、もっと楽しいのですが・・・。
翌日は大通りや札幌中心街を散策し、日本人形や息子さんへ腕時計のお土産を買いました。たった一日の滞在なのに別れに際して、何度もハグを繰り返しお互いに涙ぐんでしまいました。ホッとした安堵感とともに、言葉を越えたコミュニケーションなのかしら これって？！

Homestay committee Update
Many thanks to the following families for their acceptance of guests from

Ms. Rosalba from Columbia stayed at my house where we don't speak any Spanish.
How did we communicate? By gesticulation, smiling, cold sweating,
drawing pictures, both of us were using dictionaries, it was just difficult
communication. By Speaking broken Spanish, English and Japanese,
and the joy felt when making ourselves understood was indescribable.
I did shopping for dinner with vegetarian Rosalba, and cooked together
and ate a lot. She is cheerful, sociable, outgoing enough to visit
a hot-spring resort. Although action overcomes words, if we could
talk more it would certainly have been even more joyful.
On the following day we strolled on Odori street and Sapporo downtown and
bought a Japanese doll and wrist watch for souvenir. After only a
one day stay we hugged each other and had watery eyes upon parting.
With a sense of relief, was this a communication beyond words? The
phrase, "Let it go at this," came into my head. （Ms. Toshie

１０月２２日（土）アートスペース外輪船にて、１７団体の参加により第２回市民活動見本市が開催されました。エシアではパネルの展示と、パワーポイントを使い太田さんの説明で活動紹介をしました。他には車座懇談会があり、協働のあり方、今後の進む方向等について活発な意見が交わされました。

The "Second Citizens' Activity Fair" was held October 22 at "Art
Space Gairinsen". Seventeen groups joined the fair. ECIEA
displayed an introductory panel of our activities. Ms. Ota explained
ECIEA's daily movements and contributions to international cultural exchange.
Many ideas were discussed and exchanged at the round table; all in all

大麻中学校の国際理解教室に出席して
10月7日(金)に大麻中学校で開催された国際理解教室に出席いたしました。この教室は地域の国際交流団体や学校などと連携して、青少年に外国人や国際的な経験が豊かな市民に接する機会を提供し、外国の生活・文化を知ることで国際色豊かな青少年の育成と北海道の国際化の推進を図ることを目的に北方圏センターが主催し、ECIEAが協力というかたちをとりました。
内容は南アフリカのマリンバ奏者ジョセフ・ンコシ氏が伝統的な音楽とダンスをワークショップ形式で紹介するものでした。
マリンバとパーカッションで演奏された音楽は、私のアフリカ音楽のイメージを一変させるような洗練され、とてもメロデイックなものでした。リズムはすべてラテン系を思わせるものでラテン音楽の源をあらためて認識しました。
ダンスはガンブーダンスといい、かって鉱山労働者が労働のつらさを忘れるため、履いている長靴を叩きながら踊るものでした。ステージ上に多数の中学生も参加し、激しいリズムに合わせながら一緒に踊っていました。
教頭先生にご挨拶の時に伺ったお話では、大麻中学校は今後も国際交流に関する授業を拡大してゆき、PTAを通してホームステイも検討したいとのことでした。

October 7th (Fri.), I attended a class for international exchange at Oasa
junior high school. The class was held by the Northern Region Center,
and in cooperation with other schools and the ECIEA. The aim of the
class is to promote international sense of the students. The contents
of the class were the performance of South African traditional music by
Mr. Joseh Ncosi who played the marimba with Japanese percussionist and
his African solo dance. His music was so fine and melodic that I
couldn't help changing my attitude toward African music. I think
its rhythm is the source of Latin music. His dance called Gun-boots
Dance came from South African mine workers who danced away their hard work
with beating their boots. Many students danced following him
with the hard rhythm on the stage. The vice principal told me that
his school will develop international education. They are also planning
"Homestay" with PTA.

協議会主催の語学教室の収益100万のうち、一部をＰＣ1台買い替え、余剰金は来年度より市の予算が大幅に削減されることに備え、繰越金とする。
