1月21日（土）、昨年に引き続き今年も市内の原始林ボウルで、新年会を兼ねたボウリング大会を行いました。外国の方と会員が同じレーンになるように組み合わせましたので、練習ボウルからにぎやかに応援と歓声が飛び交い和やかな交流がはじまりました。ゲーム終了後、おいしいジンギスカンと原始林鍋を味わいながら各テーブルで話が盛り上がっていました。成績発表では優勝した　ジョナサンさんに温かな拍手がおくられました。おなかがいっぱいになってからチーム分けして2つのゲームに興じました。穴の開いた新聞紙を潜り抜けるリレーでは一位になったチームは跳び上がって大喜び、自分のチームカラーに色紙を返すゲームでも力が入り終了後にはぐったりと疲れた顔も見られました。8カ国もの方を迎え会員やその家族50名が素敵な交流のできたボウリング大会でした。ECIEAの2006年の元気なスタートです！！ (太田　佳美さん)

　 We held the New Year's Bowling Games on January 21st at Gensirin Bowling Lanes. Many non-Japanese guests participated, one of whom, Jonathan, became a champion of 2-round competition.

After lunch, we enjoyed two party games and they were so exciting that the participants looked like great friends! This was ECIEA's propitious start of the New Year! (Ms. Yoshimi Ota)

ECIEA General Meeting

The ECIEA General Meeting (2006) will be held on April 23rd (Sun). Further details can be found in the next issue of the newsletter.

　

　韓国から学生を受け入れたときの事です。事前に渡された名簿の名前が「チェ・ユンジ」となっていたので、対面したその時からずっと「ユンジ」と呼んでいました。後になって彼女が悲しそうな顔をして、「お母さん私の名前はユンジ、ではなくてユジンです」と言いにくそうにつぶやきました。あの！冬ソナのユジンと同じ名前なのに間違えてしまうなんて！彼女に申し訳なくて赤面ものでした。名前は大切なものですから、本人にきちんとどのように呼ぶといいのか確かめなくてはいけませんね。（植木あけみさん）

　毎年韓国の倍花女子大学の学生を受け入れています。長年にわたって受け入れを続けてこれたのは、ご近所のＥＣＩＥＡ会員との協力体制があればこそと思います。着物を着付け、髪を結い上げ、晴れ姿を写真に収めたあとで、浴衣に着替えて、やきもの市に案内するのが恒例の行事となっています。一軒の家でがんばりすぎないで、三軒で行事を共にし助け合うと、にぎやかでさらに思い出深い交流が出来るものです。（田原久美子さん）

This is a story of my error in calling our homestay guest, a Korean female student, by a wrong name. I called her Yun-ji, based on the information I had received. A few days after she arrived, she said to me, "Mom, my name is not Yun-ji, but YU-JIN." Oh dear! YU-JIN is the name of the famous heroine of a Korean TV drama, "Winter Sonata," which had ushered the Korean boom into Japan. I felt quite embarrassed and ashamed of my mistake.

One should always make sure to pronounce guest's names correctly since names are very, very important! (Ms. Akemi Ueki)

We host students from Baifa College, Korea, every year. We usually dress the girls in kimono, do their hair in traditional Japanese styles, take pictures and visit the Ebetsu Pottery Fair after changing from Kimono to Yukata. Cooperation of ECIEA members has allowed this tradition to continue over time. This welcomed event involving three host families is more joyful and impressive than doing it alone. Thank you all! 「パスタを茹でて食べよう」報告

　12月10日に「パスタを茹でて食べよう」が片山邸いこいの家で行われました。外国からのお客様2名、子供数名を含む20名が参加され、おいしくできたパスタに舌鼓を打ちました。片山先生に感謝申し上げます。

パスタ作りに参加して

　パスタマシンって何だろう？とワクワクしながら娘と二人で参加した片山邸いこいの家で驚きの連発でした。「お母さん足が暖かいよ」と冷えた足が暖まりながら向かったキッチンは何もかもがピカピカ。

　そしてパスタマシンが業務用なる茹で上げ機械だと知りまたビックリ。参加者二十名程の皆さんと、二種類のパスタとサラダを職人気分で作り、じゃんけんゲームなどをしながら楽しい時間を過ごしました。

　たらこのパスタは岩のりの風味が利いて作り方も簡単！是非家でも作ってみようと思います。

　キッチンには他に寿司ねたケースや寿司桶、大鍋などがあり「今度はお寿司パーティ」と盛り上がりました。ECIAに入会をして１年、皆さんの温かみを感じながらこれからも楽しみたいと思います。　企画をして下さった方々、片山先生、有難う御座いました。（片山　睦子さん）

"Let's Cook and Eat Pasta" Gathering

Twenty people, including two non-Japanese and some children, enjoyed cooking and eating delicious pasta dishes at Dr. Katayama's Ikoi-no-ie on December 10. We appreciate Dr. Katayama's kindness in offering his comfortable and lovely residence.

What is a "pasta machine," I wondered, and while attending the pasta gathering with my daughter was met with a whirl of surprise.

"Mom, the feet feel warm," my daughter told me, as I proceeded into the kitchen in which everything had a good shine. I was surprised to find that the "pasta machine" was a pasta boiling apparatus meant for business. In our group of 20, we made two kinds of spaghetti and salad as if we were real chefs. We had a good time having the spaghetti and playing stone-paper-scissors.

"Tarako" spaghetti in "Iwanori" savory sauce is so simply prepared that I would love to make it at home.

In the kitchen, there was a sushi cooling case, a vat for sushi and a large pan; amongst ourselves we decided that next time we'd like to have a sushi gathering.

It has been one year since I began attending ECIEA events; I feel the warmth of the group and look forward to enjoying more gatherings going forward.

冬のイベントのご案内

　江別市国際交流推進協議会主催の～江別の冬を楽しもう　スノーカーニバル２００６～でECIEA はお餅つきと、お雑煮つくりに参加協力いたします。うすと杵を使って実際に皆様の前で餅つきをしたり、大きな鍋でたくさんのお雑煮をつくりますので当日お手伝いしていただける方を募集しております。また歩くスキーの終わった後で江別国際センターでのスノーカーニバルに来て温かい料理に舌鼓を打ってください。（実行委員　山岸肇さん）

内　容: 雪像つくり、屋外、室内ゲーム、温かい料理　（お雑煮、お汁粉、焼き芋、韓国料理など）

Snow Carnival 2006

On February 11th, the Ebetsu Intercultural Exchange Committee will host the event, "Enjoy Winter in Ebetsu - Snow Carnival 2006". ECIEA will support the event. We are planning to perform "Mochi-tuki" (rice-cake making) with a mortar and pestle, and cook "Ozoni," (hot soup with rice cake), in a big pot.

Why don't you try cross-country skiing, and after that, come to the Ebetsu International Center where the event will be held and enjoy hot foods.

講演会　「ボツワナでの奮闘記」～象とブッシュマンの国での栄養指導～

　江別在住の栄養士でJICAの青年海外協力隊でアフリカのボツワナに行かれ現地で、病院給食やエイズ患者の栄養指導をされてきた氏家真梨さんがその活動についてお話してくださいます。飽食の日本から行かれてさまざまな経験をされた氏家さんからアフリカの自然や現地の人の食生活等、興味深いお話が聞かれると思います。国際交流の面からも貴重な経験をされた青年の声を聞いてみませんか？

Ms. Ujiie (Ebetsu resident), will talk about her experiences and life in Botswana where she worked as a dietician. She spent 2 years there as a member of the Japan Oversees Cooperation Volunteers. We look forward to a vivid portrayal of her stay in Botswana.

歩くスキーの集い

　恒例の歩くスキーの集いで、留学生さん達と交流しませんか。毎年、タイなどの留学生さん達が参加して下さっています。初めてスキーを履くという学生さんもいるので、お手伝いも募集します。スキーは青年センターで無料で借りることができますので、お気軽にご参加下さい。アフタースキーは、国際センターの「スノーカーニバル」に合流します。

Cross Country Skiing

Why don't you join our annual "Walk Ski Trip"? Overseas students are always the stars of this outing; come have fun with our group! Beginner? No problem, many will be. We welcome those that can instruct as well! Ski gear can be borrowed for free. After skiing, we will head to the International Center to participate in the "Snow Carnival".

生涯学習推進協議会より

　11月19日(土)市民会館で生涯学習推進協議会の発表会がありました。いくつかの加盟団体が活動成果の発表やパフォーマンスを行いましたがECIEAは会員の佐々木洋子さんの指導によるフォークダンスを踊りました。一曲目はステージ上で会員10名によるロシアの叙情的なダンス、2曲目は参加者全員が加わり簡単な振り付けのダンスを踊りました。会場も多いに湧き、大変楽しかったと好評を得ました。

　痴呆家族を守る会のメンバーによる「ボケない人生」の歌を鉄道唱歌のメロデイに合わせて全員で合唱し歌いながら、その歌詞の内容に今までの生き方を大いに反省させられる一幕もありました。

　発表会の後、交流会に入りましたが参加者も少なくちょっと寂しいものとなってしまいました。次回は交流会も盛り上がるよう主催者に期待したいと思います。（伊藤祐輔さん）

Report from Ebetsu Life Long Learning Association

On Nov. 19 (Sat.), the presentation of Ebetsu Life Long Learning Association was held at Ebetsu Citizen's Hall.　ECIEA performed folk dancing, as instructed by Ms. Yoko Sasaki. Kicking off the performance, ten ECIEA members demonstrated a Russian Dance. Then all of the attendees joined in and danced with simple choreography. They seemed to have lots of fun.

The group of families who support dementia patients sang a song, "The Life of Warding Off Dementia". All of us sang together. Through the words of the song, I thought about my life from past to present day.

After the presentation, a get-together party was held.

Participation was quite low. It made me feel lonely. I hope that next time more effort is put in by the organizing team to create interest in not only the presentation but also the get-together that follows.

Ｇ市女性訪問団来江延期

　姉妹都市グレシャム市（米・オレゴン州）の代表、マーディー・スティーブンスさんより、この企画を２００７年の姉妹都市提携３０周年の翌年に開始してはどうかとの申し入れがありました。理由は、２００７年は30周年記念事業等に力を注がなければならないし、30周年記念に、この企画を発表して、翌２００８年にＧ市から第１団が来江するのがいいのではないかとのことです。

この提案は役員会で承認されました。前号のニューズレターでの実行委員募集に応募くださった会員の皆様、ありがとうございました。２００８年まで企画を温めましょう。（葛西恵美子さん）

Visit of Gresham Delegation Postponed

Ms. Stevens, a representative of our sister city, Gresham (Oregon, U.S.), proposed recently that Gresham delegates postpone their visit to Ebetsu until 2008, originally scheduled for this year.

According to Stevens, 2007 marks the 30th anniversary of our sister city relationship. Because of this, Gresham and Ebetsu will have memorial events, at which they will have to offer dedications. Ms. Stevens would like to announce the Ebetsu trip at the 30th anniversary event and see the first delegation visit Ebetsu in the following year.

The Executive Committee of ECIEA has accepted her proposal. Thank you for those who applied to be volunteer staff. Now we have much time to prepare. Let's nurture the plan until 2008. (Ms. Emiko Kasai)
